A peep of elation for me, I met a pregnant woman from a BOP (Bottom of the Pyramid) family who had a serene smile on her face and a beautiful hope in her heart…
“Saas ne sau-bhagyawati ka aashirwad diya tha… To zaroor ladki hogi!”
Mystified I asked her to explain and pat came the reply,
“Jitna mein apne boodhe maa baap ka karti hoon, ladki hi to mera sab karegi jab hum budhe honge!
Mera bhai to peeke pada rahta hai, sab uski patni karti hai aur mein karti hoon….”
(A look of disgust on her face) She however didn’t comment about her husband – but had a sad little smile…
Btw BOP is Bottom of the Pyramid, people who earn less than 2$ per day…
This conversation has given me a strange sense of hope and peace!
The logic which she gave had clear definitions of gender roles in her eyes…
In 2017 I hope I meet more such women, and I have a smile on my face as I share this!
